Creative Colouring - Stampin' Creative Global Blog Hop

Happy Blog Hop Day!  Every month my friends from around the world and I create projects surrounding a common theme.  This month the theme is "Creative Colouring".  We hope we inspire and delight you!

If you follow me on FaceBook you will know that I LOVE colouring so it was VERY hard for me to decide what to do! I went from one idea to another to another to another.  In the end I decided I would move WAY outside my comfort zone ... and usual style and try my hand at Emboss Resist using watercolour paper and my Water Painter.  This is what I came up with ...

This is NOT my usual style ... AT ALL!  ... and I must say ... I STRONGLY dislike this card lol.  So why am I sharing it, I hear you cry.  Well ... cause what some people hate others love ... and as proof that we don't always love what we make.  Oh sure, it's OKAY .... just not my style ... at all.  Having said that, I DID love the process ... cause I love colouring.  Here's is what I did ...

I stamped the Butterfly Brilliance image on our Watercolour Paper using my Stamp-a-ratus and versamark ink ...

I covered the image with White Embossing Powder ...

*** Tamara's Tip:  If you don't "yet" have one of our great embossing trays, fold a piece of copy paper (or grid paper) in half and then, once your embossing paper is all tipped off your card layer you just pick up the copy paper, fold it so the loose powder pools in the middle and then you easily (and without mess) dump the excess back in the container! (which works REALLY well unless you drop your phone on the paper whilst trying to take a picture of it  ... so don't do THAT lol)

I then used my Water Painter and inks and coloured my butterflies ...

Naturally I forgot to take a picture of the finished piece before I cut it all up (*sigh - it HAS been a day!)
ANYWAY ... I cut my finished layer into 1" strips, attached them to a Basic white layer and mounted it on a Balmy Blue base.  I added a sentiment from Happiness Abounds in Starry Sky and some Glossy Dots to finish it off.
Ta-Da!  A card I strongly dislike! *snort

Now .... because it's VERY hard for me to do a blog post with a card I strongly dislike, I thought I'd share a card I VERY MUCH LIKE!  This one fits the theme of "Creative Colouring" as well.  Why didn't I go with this one to begin with?  Well ... full disclosure, this is a card I made back in April and wasn't sure it was "right" to recycle a card.  Yet here we are ....

Check THIS card out ....

THIS one I love!

It uses the Fresh Cut Flowers stamp set.  What is "creative" about it is how I coloured the top layer!  It is actually white tissue paper that I coloured with my Dark Starry Sky Blend Marker and 99% Isopropyl Alcohol!  I was going for the Faux Silk Technique that was popular many years ago.

To colour the tissue paper I just scribbled on my silicone mat with my Dark Starry Sky Blend, added a bunch of alcohol to it and then "mopped" up the mess with a piece of crinkled up tissue paper!  HECK ya, you get VERY ink fingers ... and slightly high from the fumes - FUN! lol.

Given that the alcohol evaporates quickly, you can stamp on it fairly soon after colouring it.
I used liquid glue to cover a piece of card stock, stuck the (now) blue tissue paper onto the card layer, trimmed the edges and then stamped the flower image right on the tissue paper.  I love that the image came out crisp and clear!  I wasn't sure it would!

I used my watercolour pencil (or your now retired chalk marker ... or retired gel pen) to colour the leaves.  I added the sentiment from Happiness Abounds, added a million pearls and BAM!  Done! lol.  Not a quick card but a VERY Creative Colouring one!

Did ANY of that make sense??  If not you can check out my video from back in April showing you how.  There are actually SEVERAL Faux Silk Techniques I tried in this 1 hour video.   Don't watch it now, hop through the other blog hops and then come back to it.  Here is the video ...

So there you have it!  Two projects for the price of one lol.  I hope like at least ONE of them ... and let this be a lesson in trying new things ... and sharing them even if you don't love them.

Now hop along and see what my friends came up with for you.

Thanks for popping in.  Have a stampy day!
(ps - not product list like I usually have.  It's WAY past my bedtime and I've mentioned most of the products used above.  If you have any questions on things just send me a message)

This Birthday Piggy - Kylie's Trip Achievers Blog Hop

Welcome to the Trip Achievers Blog Hop!  Each month Stampin' Up! Demonstrators from around the globe bring you projects made with Stampin' Up! products.  We hope to excite and inspire you!

This month I am sharing a project I made with the "This Birthday Piggy" stamp set.  I just LOVE this little fella/lady!  Do you recognize him/her?  He/she was featured in a now retired set "This Little Piggy".  If you still HAVE that retired set you can mix and match imaged and sentiments for twice the fun.  Love it!

Here is my little speedster, zooming to the birthday party ....

*snort.  Kinda love him!  I LOVE colouring so this image was right up my alley.  I like it so much this will be one of the cards we'll be making in my July 7th virtual class :)

I used a Pool Party card base; 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" folder and scored at 4 1/4"

Blackberry Bliss layer; 4 3/4" x 2 1/2"

Designer paper is the Host Designer Paper at the back of the catalogue "Design a Daydream" at 4 1/2" x 2 1/4"

I cut out a stitched circle from the Stylish Shapes dies and my Stamp-a-ratus to stamp the image several times in Memento Black ink, for a deep black image.

The sentiment is stamped in Pool party on a 1/2" x 2 1/4" strip, flagged with our Pick a Banner punch.

To make the flag, I used my black Stampin' Write marker to ink up just the out line of the flag and I stamped it on Blackberry Bliss card stock.  I used my paper snips to cut it out and my liquid glue to attach it.  I found I liked how the solid flag pulled the Blackberry layer colour to be more prominent on the card.

The rhinestones I used are soon-to-be-retired .. the Genial Gems.  Get 'em while you can!  They retire in a week!

Now for the colouring.  I used:

Blend Markers: Light Petal Pink, Dark Blackberry Bliss, Dark Pool Party, Dark and Light Smoky Slate

Stampin' Write Markers:  Petal Pink, Daffodil Delight, Pool Party and Blackberry Bliss

The colouring takes a little more time than you may like but if you like to colour it's great!

So that's it!  I hope you liked my project.  Now hop along and check out what all my friends have lined up for you ... and have a stampy day!
