Let Me Show You How .... to make a Faux Step Card / Desk Calendar

Happy Wednesday!  I keep thinking it's the weekend because Craig is off for a week for Christmas break!  I'm officially done all my "must do" projects for the year so now I'm playing catch-up with a few things from last week.  Namely, posting from my Live last Monday.  Instead of doing my usual Mystery Card Monday I opted for a "Let Me Show You How".  I made this awesome little desk calendar!  It's made using the Faux Step Card format, and just attaching a tear off calendar to the front.

So easy - check out the video replay here:

Quick and Easy Fragrant Forest - Kylie's Trip Acheivers Blog Hop

Happy Blog Hop Day!

Each month my fiends from around the globe and I bring you project made with Stampin' Up! products.  The goal is to inspire and delight you and maybe to show you a new tip/trick or showcase a certain product in a different light.  I hope my project this month does that for you!

This month I chose to do a card with the Fragrant Forest stamp set.  Check it out!

I just LOVE it!  SO quick, easy and striking!  I resisted buying this stamp until about a month ago.  I thought it was too much of a "one trick pony".  How much could you really DO with it? ... but I kept seeing really quick, easy, LOVELY cards made with it and I realized "I don't care if it IS a one trick pony - I like that trick!" lol ... and "add to cart" it went!

How perfect is this card for MANY occasions?  Masculine cards, birthday, thinking of you, thank you, just because, SYMPATHY ... it just WORKS!

This card is best made with out now retired Stamp-a-ratus, just because it's one big stamp but you certainly can get great results by flipping the stamp over and applying the ink to the stamp, not the stamp to the ink.  That way you can make sure you've got ink all over the stamp.  One thing I like to do with these large stamps, is to take a sponge or sponge roller and roll/pounce over the inked stamp to ensure you don't have any lines on it from the ink pad.  It gives you a better stamped image.  If you would like to add different colours of green to the image you can do that too, either with our finger daubers or a sponge.  Just add bits of different greens here and there.  ANOTHER way to get different greens is to use a finger dauber or sponge to REMOVE some of your ink from the inked stamp.  That will give you areas of lighter colour where you have removed some of the inks.

You can see I did one card in Basic White and one on Very Vanilla.  I think I like the white one better.  It really pops!  Here are the dimensions of the layers I used:

- Basic White or Very Vanilla Card Stock Base - 8 1/2" x 11"
- Pecan Pie Card Stock Layer - 3 1/2" x 4 3/4"
- Basic White or Very Vanilla Card Stock Top Layer - 3 1/2" x 4 3/4" ... and then, once you have stamped the image, cut it down by "2 ticks" off the top edge and "2 ticks" off the side edge (1/8" in grown up math).  The reason I do this is because quite often the image doesn't stamp completely on the very edges of your layer ... so I make the layer a bit bigger than I need and then trim off any dodgy sides.
- Ribbon - approx 16".  I used two different ribbons, per the product list at the end of this post.

I think you should get this stamp!  It is carrying over!  I'm not sure if that means it will be in the next ANNUAL Catalogue or not until the next HOLIDAY Catalogue but if you get it before January 3rd you'll have it for a full year before it potential retires.  I think this one is a great investment.

I showed my viewers how to put make this card during my Monday night live this week.  You can watch the replay here:

MCM Layout, Dec 4, 2023

Welcome to my MCM Layout!  I have used this one MANY times over the years.  It's just SO versatile ... and economical, as the focal piece is a 3" x 3" piece of designer paper.  You can get 16 cards from one 12" x 12" sheet!  Here are the cards I made in my Live ...

... and this is my favourite!  Switch out the card stock layer for Designer Paper and you get and entirely different look!  I LOOOOVE this card!

How do you make them?

These pieces make FOUR card. You need ....

- FOUR standard card bases - 8 1/2" x 5 1/2"
- ONE piece of 6" x 6" Designer Paper. Orientation doesn't matter - just pick a pattern you love!
- ONE piece of coordinating card stock - 8 1/2" x 11"
- ONE piece of card stock the same colour as your card bases
- scraps for sentiments - 8 1/2" x 11"
- die cuts (optional) that coordinate with your paper
- embossing folders (optional)
- paper trimmer
- usual tools, inks, embellishments

Here is the Mystery Card Monday (MCM) Facebook Live replay, showing you how to cut the papers and put all the pieces together ...

SO SO SO SO SOOOOO easy! Try this layout. You'll be hooked!
