Hershey's Kiss Christmas Tree - Kylie's Trip Achievers Blog Hop

Happy Blog Hop Day! Gotta say ... I was 95% sure I wasn't going to be able to participate this month. HOW is it December 20th?? ACK! ... and I still have SO much to do in the next 36 hours!! I guess it's true what they say "if it's important to you, you'll find a way, if not you'll find an excuse". I LOVE this hop every month ... when/where Demonstrators from across the globe post projects using only current Stampin' Up! products that we love ... and we hope they inspire! I didn't think I would have time today to share anything ... as I hadn't CREATED anything ... until last night. Check out what I made for my Club Gals ...

SO fun! I have see these "Hershey's Kisses" Trees for a few years but it hurt my head to think of making one ... until my friend Brandi gave me one last week. Once I had a physical template in my hands I just HAD to make one.

Naturally I dissected Brandi's to learn how ... and then I spent the next 3 hours tweaking it, because I did it wrong lol. The "magic" of these little treats is not having to use and adhesive to keep the Kisses in place. Therein the problem lies ... getting the dimensions JUST right so they aren't too big (and the Kisses fall out) and they aren't too small (and you say many bad words and try to mangle the Kisses to be slightly smaller ... resulting in your eating more Kisses than you should in any 2 hour period ... but also "yum"! lol). SO here are MY dimensions that may help keep calories off your thighs and and easier time putting the treats together:

Start with 1" strips. One is 1" x 11", two are 1" x 9 3/4" and one is 1" x 7".

You don't HAVE to have the two 9 3/4" ones .... you may want two strips glued together just for more stability. These trips form the triangle "case" for the treats.

For the 9 3/4" strips, score at 3", 6 1/4" and 9 1/4".

For the 11" and the 7" strips. score at every 1" interval. These two strips form the zig zag inserts that hold the treats. Oh, you will also need a brown strip 1" x 3 1/2" for the tree trunk (not shown)

Fold the pieces on the score lines. For the inserts you fold "down twice" and then "up twice" - see the picture below:

Glue the triangle "case" together and place the inserts inside. The inserts aren't glued in, just placed.

I found it easiest to place the treats in per the photo below and then putting in the rest. Pop them in "tip first. Yes, it will be tight! ... force them in there! I found that not all Kisses are the same size - the standard "silver foil" ones were a touch smaller than these "Grinch" ones ... but they ultimately worked. Some were just tighter than others.

Once the Kisses are in place grab a piece of ribbon 12" long. I apologize for my photo having a retired ribbon - I snapped a picture of the wrong one! I liked Real Red ribbons that were at least 5/8" wide. I used some Tear and Tape to secure the ribbon to the side of the treat and then tied a piece of 10" long Gold Chord around it, tying the chord in a bow,

Last up the Trunk!

You can use many different chocolates for the trunk. I used some Laura Secord chocolates I found at London Drugs (here in Canada) - but Hershey Nuggets (USA) or Rolos or any wrapped chocolate can work - use what you can find!

I didn't score the 1" x 3 1/2" brown strip, I just free-form wrapped it around the chocolate and secured it with Tear and Tape. I then used more Tear and Tape to attach the trunk to the tree.

Ta-Da! For gift giving, I then popped the treat in one of our clear envelopes. This will ensure that if the candies DO fall out they will be contained in the bag.

So there you have it, an adorable little treat that comes together really quickly, once you know the dimensions! Give it a go - they're rather addicting!
