Split Negative Technique - MCM Layout June 15, 2026

Happy Tuesday!  MAN!  My day is all OVER the place, as I try to juggle work with kitten-sitting.  No easy feat!  If you follow my Facebook page, you will know that we got a wee kitten last week.  Willow is her name and she is about 2 pounds of pure sweetness!  It has taken her a few days to get acquainted with us but she now seems VERY comfortable and is being VERY brave in her exploring.  TOO brave!  Luckily she is only awake, and running around the furniture like a Tasmanian Devil, before she takes another 3 hour nap.  SO!  I'm dancing between working in the basement, trying to get my BOGO items out the door, playing with squeaky mice, protecting my toes from little razor nails and writing a blog post.  But really ... who could say no to this??

So that's the reason I'm running behind on EVERYTHING today .. but I'm kinda ok with it :)

Did you manage to catch MCM last night?  I showed you an old technique, Split Negative, but with Designer Paper, rather than with ink ... although I showed you that too - it just wasn't in my plans TOO show you lol.  Here are the cards we made ...

I started with the most simple version of it, using just designer paper (no white layer).  This one uses Soft Sea Foam and the gorgeous Moonlit Flora paper.  The embellishments are the Dreamy Flowers and the sentiment is from Fern & Flora.  The 1 3/4" circle die I used is from Stylish Shapes and the twine is the Early Espresso/Old Olive Linen Thread combo pack (retired).

This one take it up a notch by adding Basic White to the opposite sides ...

Many hadn't heard of/seen the Split Negative technique so I used the Flowers Fair Stamp to show it.  Not may favourite - there are many GREAT samples on line.  It is most striking when you use black and white and use black and white embossing powders.  I'll revisit that method of this technique another day.
I used Night of Navy and Granny Apple Green, the sentiment is from Lovely Arrangements and the twine is a retired Night of Navy twine.

Here is the "recipe" of the pieces you need to prep if you want to try making one ...

... and here is the Mystery Card Monday (MCM) Facebook Live replay, showing you how to cut the papers and put all the pieces together. Check it out!

Give it a go!

That's it for this week.  If you would like to join me LIVE for my MCM (Mystery Card Monday) sessions, you can catch me on my FaceBook Page here at 7:00 pm Mountain Time every Monday ... or on my YouTube Channel here at the same time (I stream live to both).  Like and Follow my FB Page and/or Subscribe to my YouTube Channel.  I'd love to have you - the live community is AMAZING and so much fun!

If you live in Canada and would like to purchase any of the items I used for my cards, just click any of the pictures below and you will be taken to my Stampin' Up! online store.  (I apologize that not all products are shown!  When I do a blog post before the product is available for sale I can't add it to the list shown below.)  Thank you!  I appreciate your support!

Stay amazing!
